Who is David Pham?
David Pham is a Los Angeles-based artist who has been in the music business for two decades. He has worked with everyone from Snoop Dog to Interscope Records and
Interscope-Geffen-A&M Records, where he served as an Executive Vice President of Marketing and Artist Development at the legendary record label.
In 2012, David created his own company known as The PR Strategist. His company works with artists who are looking to get their name out there and build their brand while simultaneously getting press and increasing their social media following.
What does The PR Strategist do exactly?
The goal of my company is simple: we help musicians expand their brand through high-quality marketing strategies and the use of advanced PR tactics. In this age of social media, it’s really important that artists have a solid understanding of their target audience and how to communicate with them. I help my clients achieve this by being able to create greater awareness around their artistry without relying on just mainstream outlets.
As an example, earlier this year we helped E-40 win “Best Rap Video” at the 2015 MTV VMAs for his hit song “Choices (Yup).” The video featured cameos from people like Lil Jon and Too
$hort. We were also able to get him on Ellen, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Steve Harvey, which led E-40 to become the first independent artist in history to land over one million album sales as an independent artist.
That’s pretty impressive! Is this new type of marketing approach common in the music industry today?
Yes, it has become a much more important component of a successful music career. Not only do you need good songs and a strong social media following, but it’s equally as important for artists to have a strong presence in the press – whether that be through word-of-mouth or going above and beyond the expected norms when it comes to PR. I think one of my greatest strengths is being able to create long-lasting relationships with people who can help further an artist’s career by simply seeing what they’re doing via social media or having them show up at their events. Why should musicians and other artists hire The PR Strategist?
I think it’s extremely important for musicians to understand the power of marketing and public relations. I’ve worked with a wide range of musicians, from electronic DJs to pop singers and rappers. Collaborating with me is also very affordable given the potential opportunities that could arise from such campaigns. That’s why we offer different packages at different price points for anyone who wants to grow their music career through our services.
What are your plans for The PR Strategist?
My goal is to help as many musicians as possible. We have an extensive list of clients that includes actors, authors, entrepreneurs, filmmakers – basically, anyone who has an interest in growing their brand or presence online or through traditional media outlets.
In the future, we plan on continuing to collaborate with artists who are looking for a strong online presence. In addition, we have a few projects in the works that I hope to launch this year.
