Bringing someone breakfast in bed is a great way to show that you care, but it’s also an art form. Because we want to get everything just right, it can seem like a daunting task, but luckily, preparing the perfect breakfast in bed is easier than it may seem. Read on to discover our five tips for getting it just right:
Have the Right Tools
Before you even think about cracking an egg or boiling water for coffee, you have to make sure you have the right tools to get the job done. There’s no point, for example, trying to whip up the perfect feast in old pans that are going to cling to the meal, leaving half of the breakfast burnt. We recommend getting a high-quality nonstick cookware set. This is a good idea for all of your culinary adventures, but it’s particularly important when the meal you’re whipping up is a display of love and affection.
Balance Sweet and Savory
Bacon and eggs on toast is a time-honored breakfast in bed staple, but these days, it’s a little overdone. If you really want to deliver the perfect feast, balance sweet and savory flavors to create a true culinary experience.
A great way to do this is to consider serving up your bacon and eggs on pancakes instead of simple toast. Or, if you’re cooking for a vegetarian, whip up some smashed avo on high-quality bakery bread, and pair it with a freshly cut fruit salad.
Hot Tip: Boiled or poached eggs work wonderfully with the vegetarian option (if your loved one eats them), and they’re a great protein boost.
Don’t Forget the Caffeine
Whether we recognize it or not, most of us start our day with a hit of caffeine. While coffee is generally seen as the morning pick-me-up of choice, some teas can actually have a higher caffeine content than a cup of our beloved brown bean drink, and the flavors are far more diverse.
If your loved one is dedicated to their coffee and no other, consider adding flavored syrup to give it that extra special touch. If they’re open to tea, experiment with options such as green or fruit-based teas to really compliment the meal and give them an antioxidant boost.
Presentation Is Key
Now that you’ve got your meal all cooked up, it’s time to make it pretty> Remember, we eat with our eyes first. Choose plate, bowl, and mug colors that contrast with the food you have prepared. Speckled black is the author’s personal favorite, but any color that makes the tones of the food really pop will work well.
If it’s a special occasion, or you really want to be fancy, now is also a great time to bring out a folded cloth napkin (in a color that compliments either the meal or your serving platter) and a small vase with your loved one’s favorite flower in it.
Set the Mood
Finally, it’s time to set the mood. If you can sneak in without waking your loved one, this is the perfect time to set up an essential oil diffuser with an essential oil that will fill the air with their favorite scent. If they’re a music fan, pop on a playlist with their favorite tracks, and if they like to read, consider bringing them a new book by their favorite author.
