EMC and TR CU 020 certification

When buying any electrical or electronic device, each of us wants to know what we are giving our money for and to be sure of the quality and stable operation of purchase. To prove this, manufacturing companies obtain TR CU 020/2011 certificate for their products in the field of EMC or electromagnetic compatibility.

The first problems emerged during the “evolution” of radio communication and were originally interpreted as a search for means to combat interference with radio reception. Now the term EMC is associated with the ability of technical appliances to function with a given quality in a certain environment and not to create unacceptable electromagnetic interference to other technical means.

Everyone has experienced problems with EMC: you buy a light bulb in a store, and it flickers. Or a refrigerator of class “A+”, which, according to the manufacturer, reduces energy costs, but leaves the same figures on the bill. The computer power supply is out of order the first time you turn off a circuit breaker or “plugs” in the entryway. And next to the heater there is no signal on the phone and the radio doesn’t work. And today’s chargers can be changed like gloves: one works only for two days, the second died after a month, and the third doesn’t deliver the right voltage at all.

That is why a certificate is a critical portion of the EMC. This is the process of ensuring the safety of electronic devices under the TR CU 020 regulation.

TR CU 020 certification extends its requirements to most of the electrical products sold today. It is intended to ensure the fulfillment of uniform requirements for the EMC of devices and their free distribution.

Quite often the quality assessment is carried out not only on the basis of the above regulation but also on the requirements for low-voltage devices.

A number of electronic devices fall within the scope:

  • Household electrical goods, such as blenders, washing machines, dryers, etc.
  • Lighting tools, electric pumps, safety devices, etc;
  • Computers, printers, speakers, projectors, etc;
  • Power tools and more.

To obtain a TR CU 020 certificate, the company must be registered in the Customs Union. There are various ways to pass the requirements. Schemes include 1c – for prototypes and ensuring control of serial production, 3c and 4c – for other products.

All in all, it is an important part of ensuring that every device in a home works properly and does not mess up the operation of other equipment.
