How to Make Your Home Healthier.

Your overall health is impacted by a number of things, from diet to exercise, and your home life is no exception. It’s no secret that a healthy home promotes wellbeing- not only for people but the planet too. From ensuring your house cleanliness is maintained, to implementing gadgets to make your home more environmentally friendly and finding ways to be sustainable in your home. Keep on Top of Your Outdoor Mat:

Your outdoor mat can collect a lot of unwanted things in the house, such as pollen, bacteria and other things such as leaves from outside. It’s a good idea to keep on top of cleaning your mat, so that unwanted items aren’t brought into your house. Replace the mat frequently to keep it its most hygienic. 

Create a Pet-Checkpoint:

To stop your pet dragging in mud, fleas or any other items, set up a pet station at the entrance of your house. This way, you can check your pet and ensure they are clean before they enter the main part of the house. 

Get Filtered Water:

Filters which are carbon activated, whether that is a pitcher, tap-mount or under- sink model can include levels of lead, chlorine and other contaminants. By investing in a filtered water system, you can drink cleaner water which has proven health benefits.

Air Purifying Plants:

Considering we spend 80% of our time indoors, it’s a terrifying thought that indoor air pollution can be two to five times higher. There are a few things you can do to reduce your indoor air pollution, and that includes using air purifying plants. House plants such as English Ivy, Aloe, Vera and Peace Lilies are great for removing toxins, in addition to being great for removing stress. Other ways to improve indoor air pollution include adding a humidifier to your room, making more use of your stove hood and avoid using unnaturally scented products.

Declutter with Every New Season:

Decluttering every new season, so every four months, is a great way to make your home healthier. Going room by room, get rid of everything you don’t need or that will serve no purpose going into the new season. Decluttering will bring you peace of mind to know that you have what you need and know exactly where you to find it- and even though its four times a year, it will get easier.

Changing to Soy Candles:

Scented candles are lovely because they smell great- especially when the aroma overpowers your whole house. However, scented candles are not great for air quality- whether that’s indoors or outdoors, and a great alternative to that is soy candles. Naturally derived from soybeans, which is a renewable source, means that they are better than normal candles which come from paraffin wax which is made of the nonrenewable source a non-renewable resource.
